Cinco de Mayo

For those not-in-the-know, Cute Booze originated in Savannah by locals. And if you're from Savannah than you know all about St. Patrick's Day. So what, pray tell, does St. Pat's Day and Cinco de Mayo have in common? Well… If everybody's Irish on St. Patrick's Day, then come May 5th… Hola Chicas!

The key component to a successful Cinco de Mayo celebration is of course the Margarita. (You have to pronounce that with a trilled R. Come on… give it a shot, Mah gah rrrrrrrita! Hey, we all wear green on St. Pat's day…) There are countless deviations on the classic Margarita so we've found a site that's a great compilation. Break out the limes,'cause we've got some DELISH recipes for you!

Derby Days

Hope everyone is having as much fun as we are watching the races today! Enjoy the Kentucky Derby with a refreshing mint julep!

Mint Juleps

For this cocktail you will need water, sugar, fresh mint leaves, and Kentucky bourbon. 

First, make your mint syrup. 

To make mint syrup: 

Combine 1 cup sugar and 1 cup water in a saucepan.

Boil without stirring for about 5 minutes or until thickened. 

Remove from heat. Add fresh mint leaves

Gently crush mint with a spoon or muddler. 

You can let this sit overnight or in case of boozing emergencies use right away. 

Next, turn on Kentucky Derby coverage, make yourself a bet on your favorite horse, and make your cocktail. 

To create cocktail: 

Muddle a few mint leaves in the bottom of a tumbler or mason jar.

Fill with 1/2 cup of crushed ice.

Add 2 tbs mint syrup, 2 tbs. water, and fill the rest of the cup with bourbon. 

Enjoyed best with a big floppy hat.
